Finding Yourself

How do you begin to find yourself? To find out who you are and what you are put on this earth to do?…How does anyone know for sure how their life is going to turn out? Not everyone is gifted enough to see the future, very few are.

I’ve always wondered how individuals would find their feet and figure out who they really are. I’ve come to discover that some people choose to find themselves through alcohol and holidays in the sun, some choose to delve into books and only look up to acknowledge those who matter the most, where-as some people choose to throw themselves straight into the working world.

They all seem to work for everyone…but how do you choose which one is right for you? How do you decipher which will bring out the best in you? Does anybody really know how to do it? Maybe we just fall into place and go with what comes along, living life one day at a time, and making it through the trials and tribulations that are thrown at us.

There seem to be a lot of unanswered questions here…but I’m not sure there is anyone that is able to give the right answer. Only we know for sure who we want to be…it’s our future, our destiny and our ambitions. It’s up to us to discover them and thrive from the success that awaits us all!

Men are from Mars, maybe? – A Girls Perspective

Every girl in the world wants that one guy that makes them feel like you are the only girl for them, that hugs you and instantly everything seems so much better, the feeling of safety when your around them, the constant smile that creeps up on your face when they text or you see them walking towards you with a glint in their eye. You know that feeling when you just feel complete, that nothing could ever go wrong in your life again? I think that is the best feeling in the world.

Yet boys are a species I’m still failing to understand, like why they do the things they do to impress you, why the things happen that hurt you, why they run away from the problems when it’s really just making them worse. But it makes you think a little…are they really worth your tears? I mean does anybody really know what love is? Is it a mix of things or just one thing that makes that word meaningful? Nobody really knows..yet every person at one point has said ‘I love you’ to at least one important person in their life.

The motto I stick to is “If it’s worth fighting for..fight until you can fight no more.”

^That works for me, but you might be different. But as long as that one person makes you happy, whether it be male or female, they’re worth it. So keep fighting! And if they don’t realise how hard your trying to make it work, then maybe it’s not worth the fight any more. Maybe it’s time to find someone who IS worth it.

It’s a Laugh out Loud Genre Review!

Written by Jessica Pickles

Comedy is a genre that uses humour as a driving force, although some comedy films may take on some serious material, but most have a happy ending. Comedy films tend to become hybrid sub genre because the humour tends to be incorporated into many other genres.

They are also more likely than other films to fall back on the success and popularity of an individual star.

3 examples of comedy films:

  • Groundhog Day – a grumpy weatherman finds himself living the same day over and over again.
  • The Princess Bride – a farm boy must save princess buttercup from a forced marriage to the nasty prince Humperdinck.
  • Happy Gilmore –a reject hockey player takes up golf in order to save his grandma’s house.

The comedy genre is also one of the longest lasting genres in the film industry. It first began in 1903, when ‘The Great Train Robbery,’ a twelve-minute film that was a narrative silent film, the first ever silent film who’s popularity led directly to the to the opening of permanent movie theatres and the possibility of a future film industry.

Some examples of silent film actors are:

  • Stan Laurel
  • Oliver Hardy
  • Charlie Chaplin
  • Buster Keaton
  • Lillian Gish

As the comedy genre grew, becoming bigger and more popular, the sub genre ‘teen comedy’ was developed in 1950’s America, not long after the concept of the teenager was created, the idea of an intermediate stage between childhood and adulthood with its own peculiar characteristics.

3 examples of the first films that were aimed at the teenage population:

  • Rock around the World
  • The Wild One
  • Beach Party

But nowadays, the films that are aimed at teenagers cross over genres to maintain the audiences, but also to attract a wider range of viewers.

Teen comedies usually have stereotypical characters within the film. The good-looking one, the geeky one, a stupid one and a popular kid everyone likes.

3 examples of teen comedies:

  • 17 Again
  • High School Musical
  • Drake and Josh

Another example of a sub genre in comedy is ‘anarchic comedy’. It refers to a part of comedy that uses stream of consciousness humour. It tends to be nonsensical with exaggerated characters and situations. They use slapstick tendencies, but is considered to be less physically violent.

Examples of anarchic comedy:

  • Monty Python
  • Holy Grail
  • Blazing Saddles
  • Animal House

Examples of various other comedies:

Action comedy – Beverly Hills Cop, Rush Hour and Hot Fuzz.

Black comedy: Fargo, Harold and Maude and Love the Bomb.

Horror comedy: Beetle Juice, Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead.

Parody/spoof comedy: Life of Brian, Naked Gun and Scary Movie.

Romantic Comedy: Roman Holiday, When Harry met Sally and Knocked up.

Slapstick comedy: Caddy Shack, Safety Class! and Tommy Boy.

In my opinion, I think comedy is one of the best genres in the film industry. It provides laughter, a story line that can easily be followed, it can change emotions and also provides a sense of happiness when watching a comedic film. With different sub genres it is open to various lovers of different genres.

The Fire

As the smoke billows from the house, breaking down and crying is the only thing I could possibly think of, apart from the fact I’ve just lost everything. Everything was in that house. My possessions, my work, even my child. She was the best thing that has ever happened to me and now she’s trapped, trapped in a house that youths set on fire. I just don’t know what to do, I’d run back in even that won’t help as I’ll only get pulled back by firemen. I just hope they get my princess out; I couldn’t bare to lose her.

As I watch the firemen rush to the house with their hoses, pumps and helmets, a lump starts to form in my throat…oh god. Please save her, please. They begin to shower the house with water as I stand, helplessly waiting. Two fire-fighters dressed in flame proof clothing; rush into the house and up the stairs as they’re engulfed by flames.

They continue to flood the outside of the house with water as the fire-fighters inside are still trying to reach my baby. The neighbours are all stood staring from their doors watching the situation unfold. Some take pictures; some hold a hand to their mouths in shock.

As the last flame is extinguished and the house is left a smoking wreck. Fire-fighters who proceeded into the house run out with what looks like my little girl. Her blonde hair is tainted with black soot, her clothes singed.

“Is she alive?! Oh please tell me she is! Give her to me, now!” I screamed as I run towards firemen, who are swiftly moving to the ambulance awaiting their arrival. As I get closer I see her face, her sweet peaceful face, I just want to cuddle her and tell her everything’s okay. As I look further down I see her chest moving slowly…she’s breathing!! Ah she’s alive! Words cannot describe how relieved I am! Everything’s okay, she’s going to be okay, I’m going to be…okay.

My Intentions

If you could look into my eyes,

Whilst you stand in-front of me.

Tell me, am I too weak to see?

Broken down, brittle when I speak.

You know not of my pain, my fear, my hate,

It’s easier to protect you from my fate.

You know not of my love,

But I care for you,

You should know my intentions were always true.

You are my love and my light,

My inspiration, that’s by my side.

I never meant to hurt you,

But my intentions were always true.

As you lay to Rest

Laid there in silence,

where you are laid to rest.

As flowers are placed upon your chest.

So suddenly you left,

not a whisper goodbye or less.

A life well lived most would say,

a happy chappy, strolling through life’s sinful grace.

You’re home now where you belong,

where heaven plays that sweet sounding song.

The gates are open, waiting for you to enter,

we will always miss you, our faithful little treasure.

As we say goodbye, tears may be shed,

as we lay you down to rest.
